Build my dispute and chargeback handling. Check what happens now when a customer disputes a charge with their bank (probably nothing, which means automatic losses). Implement: process the provider's dispute webhooks (dispute.created, updated, closed) so every dispute lands in my records with the charge it references; alert me immediately when one opens (these have response deadlines, usually 7-21 days, and an unanswered dispute is an automatic loss); freeze or flag the implicated access pending the outcome, decided deliberately per my product; assemble the evidence package the provider needs: the charge record, customer communication, proof of delivery or usage (login logs, download records, email receipts), and the terms accepted at purchase; and track win/loss outcomes so I know my dispute rate, since card networks penalize merchants above roughly 1% with monitoring programs and higher fees. Don't auto-refund every dispute; that's a decision per case (refunding before the dispute closes avoids fees but forfeits the revenue). Don't keep charging a subscription that's under dispute without a deliberate call. Deliver: the dispute webhook handling, the alerting, the evidence checklist with where each item lives in my system, and a walkthrough using the provider's test-mode dispute simulation.

What This Does / How This Helps

Gives you an actual process for chargebacks: instant alerts, the evidence assembled, deadlines tracked, and access decisions made on purpose. Disputes have hard deadlines and the default outcome for ignoring one is losing the money plus a fee. Most small apps find out about their first dispute weeks late in a dashboard they never check. The dispute rate also matters beyond individual losses: cross the card networks' thresholds and your processing costs rise or your account gets reviewed. The evidence checklist is the practical core: knowing that your login logs and receipts are the proof of delivery, and where to pull them, turns a panic into a form.
